China and Chad have engaged in mutually beneficial cooperation and achieved substantial results under frameworks such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. They have elevated bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, the two countries have deepened cooperation in various fields. China has been providing university scholarships to Chadian students since 1976. It has sent 19 batches of medical teams to Chad since 1978. In 2023, the total bilateral trade volume reached $1.193 billion.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Namibia, Congo, Chad and Nigeria from January 5 to 11. Wang's visit continues the tradition of a Chinese foreign minister visiting Africa as the first overseas trip of the year for 35 consecutive years.
