Layue, the twelfth month of the traditional Chinese calendar, began on December 31. It is also known for its numerous traditional customs, making it one of the most culturally rich months of the year. Kitchen God Day, also known as Little New Year, will be celebrated on January 22 in several northern regions of China, and a day later on January 23 in its southern regions this year. 

The Kitchen God, also known as the "Stove God," originates in ancient Chinese folklore. He is believed to report a household's affairs to the emperor of the gods in heaven. People offer him food and drink, especially a melon-shaped candy made from maltose, to encourage a favorable report and ensure blessings for the new year.
