Graham Potter's spell as West Ham manager began with a loss on Friday, as Aston Villa celebrated the 150th anniversary of the club's founding by fighting back to claim a 2-1 win, in the third round of the FA Cup.

Potter was in the dugout just a day after being named to replace the sacked Julen Lopetegui, and it looked like he would bring instant success as Lucas Paqueta fired West Ham into an early lead at Villa Park, and his new side took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

But the night would turn out to be special for Aston Villa in more ways than one. The hosts sprang to life after a woeful first hour during which they failed to muster even one shot on target with two goals in five second-half minutes from Andre Onana and Morgan Rogers that turned the game on its head.

The 71st-minute equalizer stemmed from a contentious corner, but the go-ahead goal came after arguably the best move of the match, with Ollie Watkins skillfully setting up Rogers for a neat near-post finish.

Jacob Ramsey also struck a post as the home side dominated the game's latter stages.

Potter can take a number of positives from his first game in charge, however, and West Ham were not helped by hamstring injuries to Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville.
