The Guangdong Southern Tigers defeated the Beikong Royal Fighters 99-98 in Dongguan, south China's Guangdong Province, on Sunday, securing their sixth straight win in the Chiense Basketball Association (CBA).

Beikong began the game with a 8-2 lead, but Xu Jie's playmaking in addition to Eric Moreland's solid finishing performance enabled Guangdong to gain the lead back 25-24 when the first quarter ended.

The home team continued to beat through Beikong's defensive line from different spots in the second quarter. Ren Junfei’s triples and Darius Bazley's charging of the rim made the visitors' defenders unable to attend everything. After Xu Jie stole the ball from Zhu Songwei and launched fast break for Bazley to complete another two-handed dunk, Guangdong saw their advantage grow to 15 points at 47-32 with more four minutes to go in the quarter.

Shen Zijie, Travis Trice and Jared Sullinger led Beikong's rally in the third quarter and drove a 10-0 run within four minutes. Having seen their lead shrink to only one point at 61-60, Troy Gillenwater and Xu stepped up by making a series of jumpers, making sure that Guangdong finished the quarter in the leading position 77-70.

Shen continued to carry Beikong's offense in the fourth quarter. He was joined by Trice from downtown. After Trice made his second three-pointer of the game, the visitors tied the score 97-97 with less than one minute to go.

However, Shen and Zhang Fan combined to miss three of their following four free throws as Beikong led by only one points, 98-97, when there were 7.1 seconds left of the quarter. Ren Junfei threw the ball to the air and Gillenwater beat two defenders to tip it to Xu Xin who then made the decisive floater for Guangdong to win and give the opponents their second consecutive loss.
