A winter camp for the youth of China's Taiwan region opened in Beijing on Tuesday. About 300 Taiwan youths attended the opening ceremony and a cross-Straits youth gala.
They will participate in special sub-camp events with themes such as ice and snow sports, New Year's customs, and history and culture in 17 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, including Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Chongqing, Gansu, Ningxia, and Xinjiang.
On the opening day, the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots also held cultural lectures, cross-Straits youth film exchanges and other activities at Peking University and Beijing Film Academy.
During their stay in Beijing, the campers will visit historical sites and cultural institutions, such as the Palace Museum, the Badaling Great Wall, and the National Museum of China, to learn more about Chinese culture.
