The seventh China International Import Expo, which wrapped up in Shanghai on Sunday, held special significance for France, a guest of honor at this year's event. This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. Among the more than 100 French companies participating, Rémy Cointreau is highlighting its aspirations to expand its presence in the Chinese market. CGTN reporter Xu Yi spoke to the CEO of the renowned spirits group.
XU YI, Shanghai "How do you see the consumption trend for Chinese alcohol lovers?"
ERIC VALLAT, CEO, Rémy Cointreau "I strongly believe that nowadays, the trend of the future is about drinking less but better. This is calling for quality. It also means people are more demanding. I think the younger clients they are interested in whiskeys, so we have a brand there which is Bruichladdich, where we launched new products which we believe are targeting these clients that we are looking for more specific products."
XU YI, Shanghai "Last year, Rémy Cointreau opened Dentree in Shanghai, which is the group's first sustainability conception bar globally. Why did you choose Shanghai for this?"
ERIC VALLAT, CEO, Rémy Cointreau "First the idea of Dentree to be honest, it came from China, which is interesting because we worked very hard on sustainability in our vineyard. Because Shanghai is an affluent city, open to new trends, cosmopolitan, very dynamic, energetic. So we felt it's a good location for the entry. That's interesting that it's an initiative that came from China. I believe that being productive, being successful with good profitability can go with a strong sustainability, because I believe that our clients in the future, they will pay more and more attention to sustainability."
