At the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), Beikong Royal Fighters thrashed Beijing Ducks 129-102 away in the latest battle for bragging rights in the capital on Wednesday. Both teams came in missing players through injury, but the hosts have been impacted a lot more.
This season's second Battle of Beijing saw a capacity crowd fill the Capital Indoor Stadium, with fans from both sides cheering from the stands.
The Ducks beat Beikong 99-92 in last month's first meeting at the National Indoor Stadium, but went into the rematch without four key players, including Zhou Qi and Chen Ying-chun. And while Zou Yuchen and Liao Sanning were unavailable for the Royal Fighters, Chen Guohao proved to be the X-Factor, after scoring a season-high 25 points.
Beikong took an early momentum, and Beijing only drew level twice, before the visitors pulled away and maintained a steady lead until the final buzzer. Despite the Ducks' best efforts to claw back, the Royal Fighters won by 27, the largest margin of victory in series history, while also scoring a season-best 129 points.
Beikong ended a three-game losing streak while also snapping the home side's run of six straight home wins. Both sides remained in the hunt for spots in this season's playoffs, with the Ducks sitting eighth after their loss, while a much-needed victory for the visitors left the Royal Fighters in tenth place.
