A Chinese fisherman who fell ill suddenly aboard his vessel near China's Huangyan Dao has been rescued by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, the Ministry of National Defense said on Friday.
A PLA Navy vessel was conducting a mission in the nearby waters when the fisherman suddenly suffered from a gastric hemorrhage, Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, told a press conference.
It immediately rushed to the scene and moved the fisherman to another location, where he was then transported by a helicopter to a hospital in Sansha City, south China's Hainan Province, Wu said.
The fisherman has since recovered and been discharged in stable conditions, Wu said.
The Chinese military is committed to making a positive contribution to the peace and stability of the South China Sea, Wu added.
