The All-China Journalists Association has held a new year gathering in Beijing for local and international journalists. Heads of major media organizations, as well as over 120 journalists and embassy press officials gathered at the annual event. CGTN's Wang Mengjie reports.

As China's Spring Festival draws closer, media and journalists based in Beijing have come together ahead of the festive season. From handicrafts to artwork, those attending were able to take in traditional Chinese cultural elements.

The coming spring festival is also the first one since UNESCO added it to the heritage list, which is believed to further promote harmony and peace around the world.

As a window for understanding China, the media and journalists are tasked with shedding light on what the real China truly is.

LEWIS PORYLO Correspondent, Market News International "I think if you're trying to tell a better story about China, it's important that you come to China, you live in China, and then it will (give) you a chance to speak to local experts, and find out what is happening really on the ground. I live in China for a number of years, myself and my colleagues we travel around China, and are able to speak to the people who really know what is happening, and able to give us some good information, which we are able to communicate to our readers around the world."

Given an ever-changing China and a dynamic global political landscape, the media plays an even greater role in modern day story telling. One that should be founded on facts and truths.

WANG MENGJIE Beijing "Looking ahead, journalists tell me they will explore ways to better tell the China story to the rest of the world. To enhance mutual learning between different cultures with a broad vision, and care for the future of humanity with great passion."
