December 20 marks "Major Cold," or Dahan in Chinese, the last of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar. Occurring at the end of the lunar year, Major Cold lies between winter and spring. It is generally considered the coldest period of the year. During this time, people adjust their diet, eating glutinous rice, mutton and so on to keep their body warm.
