Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday praised the strong ties between China and Bangladesh, emphasizing that the two nations are not only friendly neighbors who support each other but also good partners for common development.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Touhid Hossain, adviser for foreign affairs of the Interim Government of Bangladesh in Beijing.
Highlighting the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Wang noted that China and Bangladesh have consistently upheld mutual respect, treated each other as equals, and engaged in mutually beneficial cooperation. He said the enduring partnership serves as a model for interstate relations.
Wang further remarked that Hossain's decision to make China his first official visit since assuming office underscores the importance the interim government of Bangladesh, and Hossain himself, places on the bilateral relationship.
For his part, Hossain said that Bangladesh-China relations are rooted in deep historical traditions, maintain a strong momentum of development and have broad prospects.
