An unprecedented winter storm is sweeping through the southern U.S., bringing heavy snow and dangerous ice to a region unaccustomed to such severe weather. Stretching from Texas to the Carolinas and as far south as northern Florida and described by some as a "frozen hurricane," the storm has disrupted daily life and travel.
