Tsai Fu-hsiung grew up beside the temple of Mazu in Beigang on the island of Taiwan. Mazu is the Chinese goddess of the sea. When Tsai learned that she came originally from Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, across the Taiwan Strait, he experienced a powerful desire to visit her ancestral temple there. And so, in 1981 he set out. On Meizhou Island he met someone who shared his belief in Mazu, and whose family he has maintained contact with for over 40 years. Tune in to "The Journey of the Goddess" on February 3, to learn about an enduring friendship across the Taiwan Strait.
