Beijing has expressed deep concern about the magnitude 6-point-2 earthquake that hit southern Taiwan. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council expressed sympathy to those affected by Tuesday's magnitude six-point-two quake. At least 27 people were injured in Taiwan. The disaster comes two weeks after a powerful tremor rocked China's Xizang Autonomous Region, killing 126 people. An expert in one of China's centers for earthquake studies, the Chengdu Institute of Care-Life, says the quakes that have occurred are common for this part of China.
WANG DUN Head, Chengdu Institute of Care-Life "The places where these earthquakes occurred were all in earthquake zones. So, they are not beyond the scope of the earthquake zone here. Especially the earthquake in Xizang, and the earthquake in Sichuan, and Ningxia. They are located in the north-south seismic zone. The north-south seismic zone is an important seismic zone in China, because of the high incidence of earthquakes. None of this is unusual in geological terms."
