Nearly half of US companies in China report profitability in 2024, report shows

The 27th annual Business Climate Survey Report, compiled by the American Chamber of Commerce in China, was released on Thursday, discussing the financial performance of US companies in China over the past year. 

Although with the influence of global geopolitical uncertainties and international regulatory challenges continued to shape the business environment in 2024, 46 percent of member companies reported being profitable or very profitable in 2024, with 36 percent breaking even, and 18 percent operating at a loss, according to the report. 

The survey also revealed that 87 percent of respondents see positive bilateral relations as crucial to their operations in China, up 5 percentage points compared to 2023.

"US-China relations remain the most consequential bilateral dynamic in the world today, and understanding the perspectives of our members has never been more important," said American Chamber of Commerce China Chair Alvin Liu. "A stable and constructive relationship, grounded in economic and trade ties, is critical not only for the prosperity of our two nations but also for global economic stability," he added.

Additionally, China remains an important market for US companies, with 48 percent of respondents ranking it as a top-three global investment priority.
