On January 22, U.S. President Donald Trump demanded an apology from Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde after she urged him to "have mercy" on the immigrants and LBGTQ people who may be experiencing fear for their lives following his inauguration. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and members of their families were attending a prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral on January 21 when they were given a sermon they were not expecting. In a social media post, Trump called Budde a "so-called Bishop" and a "Radical Left hard line Trump hater," and said she owed the public an apology.
