Chinese New Year is a time for family reunions and pleasant surprises, as loved ones exchange gifts and share food. But one group of senior citizens is spreading their festive spirit through rock and roll. Guo Tianqi has more.

For some, retirement is the start of pursuing their dreams. That's the belief of this rock band, whose members average 75 in age. They've come to Beijing to record a New Year's program, giving us the opportunity to learn about their life wisdom. Eight-one years old Dong Yun Rong is the guitarist and team leader of the band.

DONG YUNRONG Team Leader, Fenghe Guitar Band "We got up at around four o'clock this morning to prepare. Since we promised to come, we have to do a good job on the program. We've been performing for different organizations regularly, so we don't get nervous."

Most of the band members only started learning musical instruments after retirement. But because of their energy and unique style, they're becoming more and more popular. And, rock and roll is now part of their daily lives.

The keyboardist, Tian Yonghao, is the oldest member of the band. He's been playing the accordion for more than 60 years.

TIAN YONGHAO Keyboardist, Fenghe Guitar Band "I'm 89 years old. I taught myself to play the accordion when I was young. I often say my secret of longevity is to have my own rhythm."

Tian's favorite pieces on the accordion are marches, which symbolize how life is constantly moving forward.

In the new year, it was music that's brought them together through the ups and downs of life, and it's taught them an invaluable life lesson – to never give up on your dreams. GUO TIANQI, CGTN, Beijing.
