A new fire burned across at least 38 square kilometers of Ventura County in just two hours, prompting the evacuation of California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo on January 23.
The evacuation order issued by local authorities affected 24,000 people and put another 30,000 on alert. Overnight water drops helped stop the spread of the fire, and there have been no new reports of homes or other structures burned.
