China is bracing for a cold snap over the next three days from today ahead of the Spring Festival. Weather authorities have issued a yellow alert, the second most-severe snowstorm and cold wave warning, in most parts of the country.
ZHANG XIAOLING Chief Engineer of National Meteorological Center "The cold wave has already affected Xinjiang and the northwestern regions, with Xinjiang experiencing strong winds, temperature drops, and snowfall. From January 24 to 27, the cold wave is expected to continue affecting most central and eastern regions, with temperatures dropping by 8-12°C in most central and eastern areas. In some areas, including the eastern part of the northwest region, central Inner Mongolia, central and western north China, and northern southwest China, temperature drops may exceed 14°C. From the fourth to the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, another weaker cold wave is expected to affect China, bringing snow and rain. According to our February forecast, we should watch out for the impacts of periodic severe cold weather, strong winds, snowstorms, and freezing rain on agriculture, animal husbandry, transportation, and energy sectors."
