A thousand years ago, so the legend has it, a young woman in Fujian Province in southeastern China helped sailors in difficulties at sea. Her name was Lin Moniang, and following her untimely death she became deified as the goddess Mazu. The CGTN documentary "The Journey of the Goddess" travels from the temple where she was first revered, on Meizhou Island in Fujian, to a local community on Taiwan Island where her legacy is also honoured. And it follows Mazu's annual procession around her birthplace during the Chinese New Year holiday. Tune in to CGTN for a story of love, compassion and commitment beloved by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Coming soon on February 3.
