Ning Zhongyan of China finished the men's 1,500-meter final in the second place at the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup in Calgary, Canada, on Saturday.
A total of 20 athletes were divided into 10 groups in the finals. Ning competed with Jordan Stolz of the U.S. as the last group. 20-year-old Stolz pocketed his 17th consecutive World Cup win in a track record time of 1:41.22, Ning was 1.02 seconds behind to grab the silver.
The bronze went to Peder Kongshaug of Norway who was only 0.01 second behind Ning.
In the women's 1,000-meter event, China's Han Mei took home the bronze medal in a time of 1:13.58. Japan's Miho Takagi secured the gold in 1:13.10, ahead of the silver medalist Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands.
The next stop of the World Cup will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from January 31 to February 2.
