Editor's Note: The Chinese Spring Festival is the perfect time for cultural discovery and making new connections, and "TikTok refugees" who have moved to social media platform RedNote after the U.S. threatened to ban TikTok can get enough of it. In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan talks to Travis Phifer, Jeremy Barker, and Jaybill McCarthy, American content creators and users, who have been exploring Chinese culture and sharing their journeys online. "It doesn't feel like the Internet," says Jaybill, describing thekindness and friendliness he finds on RedNote. Barker reckons that he has learned "way more" about China on RedNote: "Everything bad we have been told about China over the years is a projection of the U.S. itself," he remarks. Travis recounts his "amazing experience" on RedNote, "without the hate, the trolling and the constant advertising" he saw on other platforms.
