As people across the country celebrate the Spring Festival, our thoughts also turn to those facing challenges, like the communities in Xizang recovering from a devastating earthquake earlier this month. Reporter Chen Mengfei is in Dingri county to see how affected families are spending their first holiday since the disaster.
CHEN MENGFEI Dingri, Xizang Autonomous Region "Compared to when we were last in Dingri, about 2 weeks ago, the biggest difference we see is that all the blue tents have been replaced by white prefabricated houses."
It marks a major milestone achieved just in time for the Spring Festival.
More than 12,000 displaced residents in the hardest-hit areas have now moved into these container homes.
In Gurong, the earliest village to make the transition, 5-year-old Lhaba Drolma welcomed us into her house.
Lunch was being cooked on the stove, and the room felt surprisingly warm.
DAWA TSERING Resident, Gurong Village "Since moving in, we don't feel cold at night anymore. It's very warm."
The homes are also wind-resistant, clean, and, most importantly, safe – a critical feature as aftershocks continue. Each unit comes equipped with electricity and even fast 5G internet connection.
Next door, the family's storage room is filled to the ceiling with food, clothing, and other essentials, from government and private donations.
This year the Chinese New Year and the Tibetan Farmer's New Year are taking place at the same time, and locals here celebrate both occasion.
To mark the holidays, governments has distributed extra food and sent out cash aid.
Since the disaster, a number of outsiders have been stationed at the resettlement site.
They are the doctors, police officers and firefighters working through the holiday.
DUNZHUB NYIMA Firefighter stationed in Gurong village "People have already suffered trauma from the earthquake. We can not let fire take things away from them again. So we are staying here."
Village head Xu Chao who's stationed here also didn't go home. He seems much more at ease compared to the last time we met.
XU CHAO First Secretary of Gurong Village "Seeing long-lost smiles return to the villagers' faces, I can finally feel relieved."

Normally locals would feast and set off firecracker on this night of Gutu. But this year, in unspoken solidarity, most people are spending it quietly.
DAWA TSERING Resident, Gurong Village "It doesn't feel right to celebrate when our neighbors are mourning those they've lost."
CHEN MENGFEI Dingri, Xizang Autonomous Region "There is no denying that this year's new year feels more somber than usual. But people here have reached a sense of peace and contentment and moving forward, they feel supported knowing that the government has got their back.
