Ahead of the opening ceremony of the Asian Winter Games on February 7, the host city Harbin is filled with colorful decorations and winter sports activities.
With the picturesque winter scenery setting the stage, Central Street and Saint Sophia Square have transformed into bustling hubs, featuring licensed merchandise shops overflowing with items like refrigerator magnets, commemorative medals and plush toys. The organizers have gone the extra mile to enhance the urban landscape, adorning buildings and trees with vibrant lights that welcome both domestic and international guests.
Additionally, Harbin has tapped into its parks and natural resources by establishing public ice rinks, making winter sports more accessible to residents and visitors alike. This initiative has been met with enthusiastic support from the community, as local residents expressed delight over the convenience of skating close to home.
"I'm really happy because the ice rink is very close to where my friends and I live, allowing us to skate together easily," said a local skating enthusiast. "There are so many more ice rinks now, which makes it much more convenient for us," another Harbin resident added. "In the past, many rinks were quite far away, but now it's much quicker to get here. It's fantastic!"
