The United States opens itself to accusations of behaving irrationally when it lashes out at other countries and blames them for its own domestic problems. A case in point is the abuse of fentanyl and the reference to it in the February 1 announcement of 10% tariffs on China. In the United States, one person dies from a drug overdose every five minutes, and blaming other countries won't bring that number down. Only reducing domestic demand for fentanyl and other synthetic opioids and pragmatic international cooperation can effectively address the opioid abuse crisis in the United States.
