Since taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump has frequently utilized the "tariff card." Alejandro Reyes, a scholar at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, has observed that tariffs essentially attack American consumers rather than "penalizing" the intended countries. Reyes emphasized that Trump views tariff as a crucial foreign policy tool. "What happens after him? He probably doesn't care all that much," he said.
