During the Spring Festival holiday from January 28 to February 4, the Shanghai Museum continued to receive large numbers of visitors. Most of them came for the exhibition "On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt," making "celebrating the New Year with culture" a new trend.
Co-hosted by the museum and the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, the exhibition, which runs from July 19, 2024, to August 17, 2025, features 788 artifacts from various periods of ancient Egypt, including statues of pharaohs, mummy sarcophagi and gold jewelry. More than 95 percent of the exhibits are on display in Asia for the first time, according to the museum.
The number of tickets sold for the exhibition has exceeded 1.4 million, with more than 70 percent of the visitors coming from other provinces, municipalities, and overseas, according to the Shanghai Observer.
