Asian economist: 'America First' reflects its lack of multilateralism

US President Donald Trump wants to "Make America Great Again", but the way he tries to achieve that objective through his "America First" policy basically means he has no sense of multilateralism, said Xing Yuqing, a professor of economics at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan.

Trade benefits both China and the united states, and if the US government is not happy with the status quo of bilateral trade, it should conduct negotiations with China, like what President Trump did in his first term instead of imposing additional tariffs, professor Xing stressed.
