More Chinese paddlers make round of 16 at Singapore Smash

Second-seeded Lin Shidong of China defeated Simon Gauzy of France 11-5, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9 in the men's singles second round at the Singapore Open in Singapore on Wednesday, advancing to the round of 16 where he will face An Jae-hyun of South Korea.

Lin was one of the busiest paddlers on the day because he also paired with Wang Chuqin in the men's doubles match and Kuai Man for the mixed doubles event. He and Wang beat home wild card pair Clarence Chew and Josh Chua in straight games in the men's last 16 and swept past No. 5 seeds Cho Dae-seong and Shin Yu-bin of South Korea in the mixed doubles quarterfinals.

Moreover, China's Xue Fei upset No. 3 seed Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan 116-, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6 to book himself a spot in the round of 16. He will play French thirteenth seed Alexis Lebrun next.

On the women's side, top seed Sun of China continued her unstoppable trend as she walked over Miyuu Kihara of Japan 11-8, 11-7, 11-3 in the second round. Her next opponent will be No. 14 seed Sofia Polcanova of Austria.

China's He Zhuojia advanced to the round of 16 as well after defeating Japanese sixth seed Miwa Harimoto 11-4, 11-4, 11-9. She will face ninth-seeded Shin of South Korea next.
