A more than 1,000-year-old grotto has been discovered in the suburbs of Taiyuan, capital of north China's Shanxi Province. Staff from Taiyuan Cultural Relics Bureau found it during their survey of grotto temples, which is part of a long-term plan of the National Cultural Heritage Administration. The grotto is well-preserved and demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship and artistic value. This new finding adds valuable material for the study of the grottoes in the region.
