Shenhua defeat Port to win Shanghai Derby edition of Chinese Super Cup

Shanghai Shenhua defeated city rivals Shanghai Port 3-2 to win the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Super Cup in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province, on Friday, retaining the title and lifting the season-opening trophy for the fifth time in history.

Shenhua posed multiple threats against the opposing side's goal five minutes into the game, through close-range attempts by Saulo Mineiro and Andre Luis, but Port goalkeeper Yan Junling made several brilliant saves to keep his team safe.

Port scored first in the seventh minute, when Jiang Guangtai's free kick was headed from Gustavo to Gabrielzinho, who gave the defending Chinese Super League (CSL) champions a 1-0 lead.

Shenhua's continuous attacks finally paid dividends in the second half. In the 67th minute, a Port defender redirected a corner kick by last season's CSL runners-up, but the clearance landed near Ibrahim Amadou at the top of the box. He fired a powerful volley into the bottom right corner of the goal, as Shenhua tied the score at 1-1.

Port grabbed the lead again in the 80th minute, as new signing Gabrielzinho gave himself a great opportunity with excellent dribbling, before netting his second goal of the game.

The lead didn't last long for the CSL champions, because Shenhua created chaos in the box in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Yu Hanchao poked the ball into Port's net, tying the score at 2-2.

Shenhua sealed the deal three minutes later. Gao Tianyi's corner kick from the right was headed in by Luis to clinch the first trophy of the new season.
