China has lodged solemn representations with Japan over its negative moves in Washington, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Liu Jinsong, director general of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, met Chief Minister of the Embassy of Japan in China, Yokochi Akira, on Monday to lodge solemn representations and express serious concerns and strong dissatisfaction over Japan's negative moves during the recent Japan-U.S. summit in Washington and in a joint statement, according to a statement published by the ministry.

U.S. President Donald Trump and visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held their first official meeting in Washington, D.C. on Friday. 

At their joint press conference, Trump claimed he and Ishiba "agreed to cooperate even more closely to combat the Chinese economic aggression," POLITICO reported. In the joint statement released by the two sides, they repeated their old tune by hyping up issues related to the East China Sea and the South China Sea, claiming the two leaders' opposition to "any attempts by China to change the status quo by force or coercion in the East China Sea."
