Sticky rice balls, known as tangyuan and yuanxiao, are a traditional treat enjoyed during China's Lantern Festival. These chewy snacks symbolize family union and are made in two distinct ways. In southern China, tangyuan is typically made by wrapping fillings like sesame or red bean paste in soft glutinous rice dough. In northern China, however, yuanxiao is created using a unique shaking method. CGTN's Chen Yuan visits a pastry shop in Beijing to learn the process.
