At least 18 people, including 11 women and five children, were killed, and over a dozen were injured in a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday, caused by a sudden rush of passengers trying to board trains for the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. In a statement, the Ministry of Railways said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the "unfortunate incident."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his distress over the incident. "I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those affected by this tragedy," he wrote on X.
