Hosts China failed to defend their title after a 3-1 loss to Indonesia in the final of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, on Sunday.
Indonesia claimed the opening point as Rinov Rivaldy and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti cruised past Gao Jiaxuan and Wu Mengying 21-11, 21-13 in the mixed doubles match.
Alwi Farhan then triumphed in the men's singles, defeating Hu Zhean in straight games to extend Indonesia's lead.
"Today I didn't perform well, especially in terms of tactical discipline," said Hu, who played four matches in the tournament and won three of them. "I've learned a lot these days. I didn't give up when I was behind, and I tried my best to catch up every time. Also, I'm more confident now."
In the women's singles, Xu Wenjing delivered a commanding performance, beating Putri Kusuma Wardani 21-12, 21-13 to narrow the gap for China.
"I did feel nervous on the court, but I had already thought about all kinds of difficulties I might face and how to handle them. So nothing could affect my performance. I'm very proud that I earned one point for my team," Xu said.
The men's doubles match saw Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin ease past Chen Xujun and Huang Di 21-15, 21-9, securing the championship for Indonesia.
