Australia secured the top spot in Group A after defeating hosts China 2-1 in their final showdown of the group stage in the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup in Shenzhen.
Both teams made several changes to their line-ups after already confirming their knockout stage spots. The Young Socceroos struck first in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on a mistake from China's goalkeeper Liu Qiwei, allowing Medin Memeti to nutmeg him. Just two minutes later, Louis Agosti found the back of the net, with his shot deflecting off Qi Qiancheng to make it 2-0.
China responded just before the half-hour mark, as Kuai Jiwen volleyed home Xu Junchi's cross to narrow the deficit. The hosts dominated the second half, with substitute Mao Weijie wasting a golden chance in the 61st-minute by heading wide from six yards.
Despite sustained pressure, Australia held firm to win 2-1, ensuring they top the group with a perfect record while China progress as runners-up.
