Su Bingtian, the men's 100-meter Asian record holder, won the men's 60-meter race in 6.65 seconds at the third stop of the Chinese National Indoor Athletics Championships in Jinan, east China's Shandong Province, on Tuesday.
There were more than 150 athletes participating in the 60-meter event on the day and they were separated into 19 groups. Su was in the final group with his Guangdong natives Chen Guangfeng and Wu Haoling as well as Shi Yuhao and Sui Gaofei from Jiangsu.
Su, 35, had the second-best start of all athletes and surpassed all of his opponents in the middle of the competition before clocking 6.65 seconds to win it. It was the second-best performance so far at the Championships and ties the 10th-best in Asia.
"It feels special to come back to the track," Su posted on social media after the competitions. "Everything I recall since my first indoor race 20 years ago became memories. I have finished my last 60-meter race of career in 6.65 seconds. I want to thank the organizing committee and the friends who have been supporting me. I will continue to focus on recovering and prepare for my final National Games of China at home."
The 15th National Games of China will take place in south China's Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region from November 9 to 21. Su revealed in December 2024 that he will retire after the Games.
