U.S. President Donald Trump signed two official proclamations on February 10, imposing a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum from all countries, effective March 12. The U.S. is the world's largest importer of steel, with Canada, Brazil and Mexico as its top three suppliers, according to U.S. Commerce Department data.

CGTN Stringer interviewed people from different industries in Brazil about their views on it. Economist Alderir Gutierres said a 25 percent tariff would disrupt a market that has been organized by the World Trade Organization for many years and have a huge impact on Brazil. Lawyer Vinicius da Silva said, "I think these tariffs are very bad because it will harm Brazilian exports to the United States. It will create a type of trade war."
