Players from the host nation continued to win at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)-Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) Asian Cup in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, on Friday.
Third seed Wang Yidi of China cruised past Rinad El-Hasani of Jordan 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 in the women's singles event, qualifying for the next round with three straight victories. Wang took just 10 minutes to secure an easy win.
Home favorite and top seed Sun Yingsha swept aside Aia Mohamed of Qatar 11-5, 11-3, 11-3. She also advanced to the next round after topping her group.
In the men's competition, World No. 1 Lin Shidong of China defeated Ali Alkhadrawi of Saudi Arabia 11-6, 11-3, 12-10 to wrap up the group stage. The toughest battle took place in the third game, when Alkhadrawi led 10-8 before Lin scored three consecutive points, recovering to claim the frame and seal the deal.
One day earlier, Chinese second seed Wang Chuqin beat Japan's Yukiya Uda 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 for his second win. He will face Ahmed Korani of Qatar on Friday night.
