A mainland spokesperson pledged on Wednesday to promote Taiwan compatriots' participation in Chinese democracy and to improve policies and systems that enhance their well-being.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to a media query about the growing interest from people in Taiwan in the Two Sessions, annual sessions of China's national legislature and national political advisory body.
The Two Sessions, Zhu stressed, serve as a key platform for whole-process people's democracy, as well as an important window for Taiwan compatriots to understand the socialist system with Chinese characteristics.
The spokesperson noted that in recent years, more Taiwan compatriots have shared their views and suggestions on cross-Straits relations through various channels. She added that the mainland will create more opportunities for people from Taiwan, especially the youth, to observe and participate in whole-process people's democracy, and will fully consider their opinions and suggestions.
"We are ready to work with compatriots in Taiwan to advance national reunification and rejuvenation," Zhu said.
