"China travel" through the African lens

Have you ever travelled to a place because it was featured in your favorite films? The recent box office success in China is fueling a new wave of movie-inspired travel and culinary exploration, creating new opportunities for cultural tourism.

Capitalizing on this momentum, travel agencies in China have offered a variety of themed tours based on popular film locations, scenic spots, and iconic story settings.

These offerings have attracted a surge of tourists, with train and air tickets to destinations like the western provinces of Sichuan and Shaanxi experiencing a notable increase in demand.

China has also launched a global promotional campaign called "Travel China with Chinese Films," designed to inspire international travellers to explore the country's breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

So, what trends are we seeing among African travelers to China? Two young Africans share their ideas.

1.      Jackie Chan's Influence: Many Africans are first introduced to China through Jackie Chan's movies, where elements like Kung Fu and traditional Chinese architecture form their initial impressions of the country. (3:07)

2.      The Real China Exceeds Expectations: The true China surpasses any preconceived notions, with its remarkable development, modernization, technology, infrastructure, and convenience. The modernization of Chinese rural areas is not the "typical" rural setting but rather more urbanized. (14:00)
