Han Mei of China secured the women's 1,000-meter bronze medal at the final stop of the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Saturday.
Han was competing with home favorite Jutta Leerdam in the same group. Leerdam clocked 1:14.27 to win the gold. Han was 0.53 second behind in the third place. The silver went to Miho Takagi who finished in 1:14.49.
One day earlier, Han got the women's 1,500-meter bronze. She is in third in total points in both events.
Han's compatriot Ning Zhongyan came in fourth in the men's 1,000-meter competition in 1:08.07, 0.09 second behind home bronze medalist Tim Prins. Another Dutchman Jenning de Boo won the gold in 1:07.45. Cooper McLeod of the U.S. was the runner-up after clocking 1:07.87.
