The Two Sessions, China's biggest political event, is just around the corner, with ethnic unity high on the agenda. But what does that look like on the ground, especially in Xinjiang, where U.S. sanctions have loomed for over four years? During my visit to Shihezi, Xinjiang, an Uygur man told me, these sanctions were designed to break Xinjiang's ethnic unity. But have they succeeded?
