China's support for the development and revitalization of the Global South is a key focus of the Global Development Initiative, Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, said at a press conference on Tuesday.
In the past 20 years, Global South countries have contributed as much as 80 percent of global economic growth, Lou noted, adding that the collective rise of the Global South is a clear sign of a major shift in the world order.
As a developing country and an integral part of the Global South, China has always shared a common destiny with these nations and has consistently been an active participant and leader in South–South cooperation, he said.
Lou said China is doing all it can to provide development assistance to more than 160 countries, partnering with over 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative.
China is committed to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and accelerating the implementation of three major global initiatives, he added.
