Highlights: China's top political advisor's work report at annual session opening

China's top political advisory body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, opened its annual session on Tuesday in Beijing.

Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a work report on behalf of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee. 

Here are some highlights.

CPPCC highlights advisory work and policy contributions

The CPPCC National Committee has received 6,019 proposals over the past year, of which 5,091 were filed, with a 99.9-percent response rate, Wang said in the work report.

Various policy recommendations received 819 instructions from leaders and 53 feedback reports from local governments and departments.

Wang said that we will closely follow the central tasks of the Party and the state to perform duties and improve the quality of consultation and administration.

Over the past year, the CPPCC National Committee has organized 75 seminars in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. Wang said that it will organize more inspection tours to enhance ties with Hong Kong and Macao youths.

CPPCC deepens intl exchanges, advances Party and national priorities

The CPPCC National Committee has coordinated different activities of public, people-to-people and think-tank diplomacy by convening major international events, such as the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Wang said on Tuesday.

The CPPCC National Committee and its affiliated organizations have carried out 221 international exchange events with over 2,600 foreigners from 140 countries and 11 international and regional organizations participating in those activities, Wang said.

Wang said that in the year ahead, CPPCC members will contribute their wisdom and strength toward accomplishing the goals and targets outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and to ensure a good start for the next five-year period.
