The third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference began today at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. CGTN's Liu Jiaxin reports. 

China's political calendar enters a critical phase as over 2,000 members of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference gather in Beijing for their annual session.

President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the opening meeting, where Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a work report on the committee's achievements over the past year.

WANG HUNING Chairman, CPPCC National Committee "We should implement the important arrangements of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on the development of consultative democracy and the reform tasks set by the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for improving the consultative democracy mechanism, promoting the construction of consultative democracy of the CPPCC, and guiding CPPCC members to consciously engage in and pool their efforts into consultation for decision making and consultative democracy for national governance at the frontline."
