CPPCC member emphasizes promoting educator spirit in the digital age

Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) member Wang Dinghua, also the Party secretary of Beijing Foreign Studies University, emphasized the importance of promoting the educator spirit and improving the status of teachers in the digital age when answering a media question at the Members' Corridor.

He said that China is developing a high-quality teaching force of 18.91 million full-time teachers, distinguished by their strong ethics and skills. To promote high-quality and balanced educational development, teachers should embody the "educator spirit," emulating figures such as Confucius, Tao Xingzhi, Zhang Guimei and Yu Yi.

Wang also called for improved teacher benefits and policies to attract top talent, making teaching a more desirable career. He advocated for enhanced holistic education, encompassing moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor development, along with equitable resource distribution and teacher rotation.

Recognizing the transformative impact of artificial intelligence and the evolving needs of digitally native students, he urged teachers to embrace professional development through national and provincial programs. This focus on continuous improvement aims to equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the digital age.

On Friday morning, the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, the country's top political advisory body, held its second group interview at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. CPPCC members spoke to the public and answered media questions at the Members' Corridor.
