China's national lawmakers began deliberating on the work report of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Saturday.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, delivered the report at the second plenary meeting of the third session of the 14th NPC.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the meeting.
Over the past year, the Standing Committee of the NPC has supported and served the country's reform and development efforts through high-quality legislation, according to the report. It added that the NPC Standing Committee has also enhanced its self-improvement initiatives to strengthen its competence in law-based governance.
China will continue compiling an environmental code in 2025 and will draft a national parks law while also revising the Foreign Trade Law that same year, the report said.
As part of efforts to modernize the national security system and improve public security governance, the country will also revise the Cybersecurity Law in 2025. The report further noted that China will intensify research on legislation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy and big data.
China will formulate or revise multiple laws to strengthen its legal framework for the development of the socialist market economy this year, the report said.
The NPC Standing Committee will formulate a law on promoting the private sector, a national development planning law, a financial law, a financial stability law, and a law on farmland protection and quality improvement in 2025. It will also revise the Unfair Competition Law, the Enterprise Bankruptcy Law, the Agriculture Law, the Fisheries Law, the Civil Aviation Law, and the Banking Regulation Law, the report stated.
Additionally, the NPC Standing Committee will hear a special report on climate change action in 2025 and review reports on various key issues, including fostering new quality productive forces, promoting integrated development of the cultural and tourism sectors, and protecting the rights and interests of workers in flexible and new forms of employment.
The top legislature has also begun deliberating on a work report from the Supreme People's Court (SPC).
SPC President Zhang Jun delivered the report at the second plenary meeting.
