On the occasion of the International Women's Day, Icelandic Ambassador to China Thorir Ibsen sent greetings to women in China and across the globe. In an interview with CGTN, Ibsen said that in 1995, China hosted the United Nations World Conference on Women, which is a great contribution of China in promoting global gender equality. The "Action Plan" reached at the conference was one of the most progressive and influential action plans recognized by the international community to promote gender equality. At that time, Iceland's first democratically elected female president Vigdis Finnbogadottir also led a delegation to China.
