China's 41st Antarctic expedition announced a breakthrough in microbial research as scientists identified new bacteria species in Antarctica. The team from the Polar Research Institute of China identified six new genera and seven new species of bacteria. These discoveries contribute to China's efforts to build a comprehensive polar gene bank, which now has over 3,500 strains of polar microorganisms and nearly 30,000 total samples across 185 genera.
